DIY, and the required usage of power tools, has always traditionally been seen as part of the male domain. By this we mean that work which involves construction, demolition or general maintenance has been seen as work which men should do. This outlook has existed for hundreds of thousands of years. It has always been the males who carry out the more demanding and physical duties of life. This has typically ranged from hunter gatherers, to the industrial age workers in factories, all the way up to more recent times and seemingly much less dangerous occupations such as DIY.

In today’s world however things have started change. There is no doubt that women are more than capable of using power tools. Numerous DIY and construction companies even exist where the workforce is built up entirely of female workers. These companies are exceptionally popular, especially amongst female customers. Female customers are not often comfortable with having groups of men in their house, as they feel much more comfortable with female workers being there to do the work. This is completely understandable, women probably feel that female workers are less intimidating and are even less likely to rip them off. Again, it’s probably just part of history and previous experience which makes women more inclined to trust and hire other women.

Women are becoming much more prominent in the areas of DIY and construction, and some of this can easily be attributed to the much more user friendly power tools that are on the market, supplied by companies such as us at Tool Chest Direct. Advances in power tool technologies have led to equipment which is easier to use, easier to handle and which does a better job than many of its overweight, and dangerous predecessors.

Maybe it’s women who now have the power?
