Rapidshareindex dot com is a great search engine for finding products. There are some other black hat methods to find software but I prefer to stay away from a lot of them. My personal problem started several weeks ago when the motherboard of my personal computer stopped working. I needed to save all the stuff on my personal hard drives so getting a new pc was not an option, not to mention the fact that with a new system you were forced to have Microsoft Vista on your system.

I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I found a barebones system on Craigslist which had a faster motherboard plus XP Professional was already installed so I took my old c: drive from my pc with the bad motherboard and I installed it in this new case. Unfortunately all the software that I had paid for in the last 5 years would no longer work.

I now had to find opensource software that could replace all the other stuff that I used to own. Don't get me wrong, I had performed searches in the past on getting quality software but now I had to take my search more serious. Now Opensource software from a site like Sourceforge is plentiful. I had read once that the owner of CBMall had originally come from opensource software and as I performed more research I found that a lot of the software today came from opensource roots.

Now I used to have Visual Studio version 9 on my system but cost to replace it without buying academic is over $1.000 and this is not a time where I had a bunch of extra money to play around with. Because of Microsoft having Express software I could now get Visual Basic, Visual C, and Visual Web Developer for free. Yes there would be a couple features that wouldn't work for me anymore but there were ways to get around this.

Now, I also had JAVA and Netbeans on my system and these were still free. To replace my copy of Camtasia I would now use Camstudio. Now opensource software is not only available on Sourceforge but on several other sites as well. Also you can go to any search engine and first type the name of the software that you need then next a comma and then the plus sign and right after this without any spaces type either rapidshare, freeware, or download and you shall get some pretty fantastic results.

Now besides the search engines you can also visit sites like Black Hat World at blackhatworld dot com. They have a section about getting low cost and free software. Also look at Digital Point forum and The Warrior Forum. If somebody in your houshold is going to school then let them purchase software with academic pricing which can save you upo to 90%

In the near future I will be doing another post on this subject that looks at things given for free if you try some odd service. Another place you may be able to get discounted software at is a bankruptcy auction. Look at your local paper for these.
