Hybrid Car Introduction - By: Allan Michael Taylor

A great many of us are trading in our outdated gas consuming cars and opting for a more innovative car and instead buying a more cutting edge type of car that stands to cut your fuel bill in half. These high tech vehicles are labeled as hybrid cars. What's more, these hybrid cars release less greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere than most cars currently on the road. So, with more of us turning to hybrids, the better off we all will be.

So, now that you understand why they're so popular you probably want to learn a bit about what makes them work. This article will give you a quick introduction.

In the simplest of terms, hybrids run on both gas and electric power sources to power the car. For starters, the electric portion of the engine is used when you're idling and this is when the gasoline engine is powered down. That means that the car is purely running on electricity. This actually explains why hybrids are so quiet at intersections. This is one of the main reasons why hybrids are so fuel efficient. At the instant the accelerator is pushed however, the gas engine powers back on. Some hybrids actually that give you the option to ask it to run solely on electric power. This is an especially desirable feature if you are only using the car for local travels. This could make it so you don't need to gas up the car for a considerable period of time.

Of course, in a hybrid, you have to consider putting gasoline for long travels. You can even say that the gasoline will be used for back up power in case the battery is discharged. That's all there is– a battery that stores energy, a generator, an internal combustion engine, a fuel tank, and a motor that runs on electricity. Now you know why it is called a 'Hybrid'.

Now that you know how hybrid cars work, you hopefully have a better idea of why they're so popular. Owning the car will not only cut down on the amount of fuel you put into your gas tank each month, but it will also allow you to do even more to cut down on global warming.

Driving a hybrid car is no longer a far-fetch dream. It is a reality and you should not be surprise to see more cars with the tag "Hybrid" on the road. So, go try a hybrid car today, you'll love it.
