Its that time of year again. Strawberries and cream, Champagne. And of course the Wimbledon Tennis Finals. And this year the BBC are pushing the boat out when it comes to online and interactive coverage.
The BBC have revealed their plans for an interactive, high definition, mobile and online catch up tv bonanza. For a start the tennis will for the first time ever be in high definition on the BBC’s HD channel.
Their will also be a big ramping up of the internet tv coverage given to the sport, including live streams and tennis on demand. Also on offer will be interviews, live scores and the iPlayer will be offering between two to four matches per day.
The ladies tennis matches will be shown in full, whilst the mens matches will be broken into sets to view. Additionally, the BBC’s daily round up show, “Today At Wimbledon” will be available to watch on demand via the iPlayer service.
Their will also be mobile coverage for those on the move plus a highlights service and replays of top matches. Viewers can also switch between commentary and non commentary options on the live matches.
Even if your not a tennis fan, it will show the way that online tv coverage of major sporting events can become a much more interactive experience than watching on standard tv.

After seeing the success of online TV, the movie companies want some internet TV action too.
The studios concerned including Lionsgate, Paramount and the mighty MGM are working on a currently beta Epix internet platform for showing movies. Currently in the planning stage, the project will include a TV station complete with sister internet site which will be free of charge.
Although its the kind of thing a cable company would supply and charge big bucks, it will reportedly be foc. On launch there will be a choice of literally hundreds of online movies to view on demand, including some blockbusters!
Even better the website is planned to be ad free. The only proviso is that the movies shown must have already been shown on free to air TV. But this includes literally hundreds of movies.
Also planned with the service is a HD quality of streaming and a social network feature. So you can chat with others about the movie your watching.
The project is still in a beta stage, and although it will be free initially it could become a paid for membership site. Yeah i thought it sounded too good to be true.
However looking on the bright side, a online movie website that is totally free (initially at least) and can compete with Hulu but is dedicated to films is a great development and a welcome addition to the online tv family.

Just as everyone gets used to watching all that high quality premium Hulu TV streaming content, comes news that they may start charging for it!
Chief Digital Officer from News Corp, Jonathan Miller has been talking of the dreaded subscription charges for Hulu. The Online TV giant have not announced anything officially but considering News Corp have a stake in the company, you might want to take notice.
Hulu has enjoyed an enormous success and growth since its inception, but has always struggled to make profits, a subscription service would obviously suit the accountants. But what about viewers used to watching Free TV? Many have come from torrent, P2P and other illegal download sites and are watching the ‘official’ versions of top tv shows.
It will be a brave move and could see a mass exodus of users going back to illegal downloading. The other issue is that currently Hulu shows advertising during the streaming, will that continue?
The move from watching traditional TV to viewing online would also suffer. Whatever happens, a pay model would go down like a lead balloon. Hulu if your listening, go down the free route and make your money from advertising.
