TV-Links.co.uk the infamous free tv website created in 2006 has won a legal case, 3 years after being shut down.
TV-links.co.uk became the biggest and best links site on the internet according to many, but was shut down in October 2007 by FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) in the UK. Its server was also shut down by the Dutch authorities. However a report on Torrentfreak.com says that the site should never have been closed in the first place..

The hearing eventually happened in January and Torrentfreak reports that the judge dismissed the case against the site, ruling that linking to TV shows wasn’t the same as distributing them.
The Judge also ruled that the allegations under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act failed because there was no evidence that TV-Links made available to the public the films and shows they linked to. There is no appeal available to FACT against this ruling.
The Judge noted that FACT had not applied the Attorney General’s guidelines when deciding to prosecute the defendants with Conspiracy to Defraud.
Although TV-Links.co.uk has never been back online, it has spawned a massive number of other TV show directories. The ramifications have yet to be felt, but in view of the verdict, will anyone else try to shut down a website that just links to the streaming content?

Sports network ESPN are launching (or should that be relaunching?) a new online sports tv channel for sports hungry pc owners. They are rebranding the original ESPN360.com as ESPN3.com starting on April 4. The channel will show 3,500 events per year.

ESPN3 For Sports Fans
A spokesman for the sports media giant said that the name change reflects the way the company increasingly views the site, as a full-fledged third network that complements ESPN and ESPN 2.launching the new ESPN3.com network website on April 4th promising fans those hard to find games and alternative ways to watch sporting events.
“We’re doing some new things,” said Phillips, ESPN3.com will “bring the best of the web and television together.”
Although most fans want to view their favorite sporting events in their home on a big television screen, if that option is not available — because the game is on in the daytime and they’re at work, because they’re out of town and can’t see the local team or lose the TV to family members watching something else — they’ll be able to watch on pc as an alternative.
As well as the expected major sporting events that viewers can also see on ESPN, the online network will offer college sports that can’t be seen anywhere else, as well as out -of-market games and sports that aren’t often shown extensively on television, such as cricket, soccer and tennis.
Sports that fans will be able to watch online include the NBA, college basketball, football, baseball, hockey, softball and lacrosse; the FIFA World Cup, European soccer games, Major League Baseball, the Little League World Series, the U.S. Open and The Masters golf tournament.

That iPad everyone keeps writing off seems to be getting more and more media attention. The latest being that Hulu is planned to be available at the launch of the new tablet pc. At the launch of iPad, everyone was aghast that there was no flash player integration equalling no Hulu which relies on the player for its streaming.
However if we rewind back to the launch of the iPhone, there was similar constination that YouTube was not compatible, however during the weeks leading up to launch, Apple announced that YouTube would in fact have a dedicated app built right in to the iPhone and that they had started the task of re-encoding their videos to H.264 format, which makes a lovely video on iphone. The same thing now appears to be happening with Hulu and the iPad.
The lack of Flash support on a device that seems perfect for watching videos has always been a puzzler. But it appears that Hulu is already hard at work on an iPad version of its website. Now, we don’t know if this is actually going to be a Hulu app, similar to what YouTube has on the iPhone, or if Hulu is simply switching up it’s Flash player and adding support for HTML5. The nice thing here is that Hulu has been using H.264 compression in their videos since the beginning, so the only real change that needs to be made to be iPad-compatable is to allow videos to be played outside of the Flash player, and HTML5 will do the job fine.
So all iPad lovers and followers, get drooling even more because you may well be able to watch hit tv shows rom day one. And even if its not available at the launch, you can watch tv episodes for $1 instead.
