How to use solo ads for effective list building - By: Laura Wolf

Many people struggle building their list online as they are not html gurus and also there is a huge competition out there. If you are starting a list building campaign, the effectiveness is determined by the planning. You have to locate where people can be found online who are eager to get the information or solution you can offer; eager enough to sign up for your list or e-zine. Remember to always do your research first, and then make sure that you target the right people with the interest that suits your content.

Safelists are often considered tools of the past, but the statement is absolutely not true! They have undergone some major changes recently, and that means they got better and more effective than ever, when it comes to solo email advertising; basically these guys running the safelists don't want to go out of business, with a list of often more than ten thousand. They had to find a solution to deliver their promises when it comes to effective solo ads, and making sure that people joining their sites will get great results delivered for list building and branding campaigns. They recently installed many anti-cheat features, to keep the lists clean and spam-free.

I am using a combination of safelist, traffic exchange and text ad exchange solo advertising to get subscribers to various lists, and after testing many squeeze pages, I have to admit: I love this free way to post solo ads and I recently saw a sign-up rate of 7% for one of my affiliate offers, that was clearly surprising, as you wouldn't expect it to be so high if people are just clicking for credits. The secret here is: what do you offer people.

The majority of people make a huge mistake by trying to sell ice for the Eskimos. Let me explain: People on the safelists are looking for subscribers as well as you, so they are not seriously considering joining one of your sites, unless you offer them a solution, answer or tool that can better their business. So if you try to sell Eskimos fishing tools for example instead of ice, they might be interested. And these people advertising on safelists are really keen on improving their business, therefore a well targeted solo ad can become very effective. Anyone who told you that safelists are dead, was wrong or did it absolutely wrong.

The only way solo advertising is going to help with your list building is if you make up a careful plan on what are you going to promote (I wouldn't use safelists or free solos for sales pages) and have to have your squeeze page ready with a series of solo e-zine ads that are closely related to the squeeze page they signed up from. If you promise people a free download, please make sure that it gets delivered, check your download page before you send out your solo ad, and prepare a “thank you email” with the download link in just in case.

Solo advertising is actually a way to legally steal other people's list (safelists, traffic exchanges or text ad exchanges) and put those people on your list. So if you are posting free solo ads on safelists and text ad exchanges you are leaving money on the table.
