How to listen to your inner voice of confidence - By: Dee Brady

Do you often look in the mirror and say to yourself "who are you?"

I remember doing this a lot while I was in my adolescence, but not much since. We are whatever we have developed into, like it or not, through our thoughts, beliefs and actions up until this time. Not many of us really think carefully about our beliefs, even though they are essential to our well-being. Belief is the most powerful state of mind since your belief system defines and moulds who you are, and determines your capability.

Your belief system doesn't form an opinion or condemn, it simply accepts as truth whatever you tell it. That is a powerful idea that Henry Ford agreed with as he declared: "Whether you think you can or think you can't - you are right". Beliefs possess a direct bearing on how we act. Put simply we can possess positive beliefs and negative beliefs. A positive belief can establish a target such as to lose weight by diet and training. A negative belief will drive you to negative behaviour, such as if you have been continuously told by your parents you'll never land a job and you believe them, you won't get a job, you'll squander your time and subconsciously prove them correct. BUT if you tell yourself they are in the wrong you will land a job, your actions will be motivated and geared to finding a job. Your belief system is such a powerful tool. We need to be alert to the possibilities of belief and self talk.

Okay, we all experience doubts - whether you can carry out that job, whether you'll be able to deliver that presentation, whether you can pass your driving test - and these doubts are acceptable in small doses, they prompt us we need to take action to succeed, whether it be polish up our interview skills, be prepared ahead of the presentation or know the Highway Code. Some people think of these doubts as a little devil sat on our shoulder constantly dismissing whatever we achieve, continually putting us down. The crisis begins if you cannot see through this inner doubt. You need to get the balance correct between inner doubt and inner confidence.

Your inner confidence is the voice you need to listen to and pay attention to. It is the voice of inspiration, courage and support. It can make your life revolutionize into a vital, glowing, growing triumph. Successful people possess inner confidence. They hear this supportive voice egging them on to success even whilst the inner doubt (or little devil) tries to raise his voice and tell you, you can't achieve it.

"You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them". Michael Jordan, basketball player.

Think about yourself and whose voice is the loudest in your head. Is it the inner voice of confidence or the inner voice of doubt? You are in control and can shift the balance. Remember the thing we have been saying all through this article, "Your belief system doesn't form an opinion or condemn, it simply accepts as truth whatever you tell it". So tell it something great about yourself!

Change the balance in your head to be in favour of your voice of inner confidence. banish all negative thoughts of defeat and failure. You are wherever you are at the moment because of your journey so far in life. Life is constantly changing and developing. You can move on and develop too. Change your beliefs to mirror who you desire to turn out to be, don't simply be the person you are because of whatever you've thought of yourself so far. Get free of all negative beliefs you've brought with you for years. Unburden yourself right away. Be positive, think positive thoughts. It's your opportunity to give up making excuses, grant the power to your inner voice of confidence and start enjoying life and getting whatever you desire out of life.
