How to get a proper moving estimate from a moving company? - By: Mark Grinshpun

Getting a moving estimate from a moving company is one of the most important steps involved in the process of hiring a movers company. The more appropriate and detailed the estimate is the better you will be able to decide on the amount of expenditure needed and time to be allotted for the job. In order to get a good cost and time estimate for moving, follow these steps:

Start with finding out about a company that can provide reasonable and timely moving services. The cost of moving and the time needed would depend directly on the amount of goods you need to move. So while making comparisons between the claims made by the moving companies make sure you are making the comparison for the same amount of goods, to know your best bet for cheap movers.

Once you have selected the company, read their details well. Most moving companies provide basic information related to their moving estimate on their company website itself. These can go a long way in helping you prepare yourself for what is ahead. However, it is very important to bear in mind that the estimates listed on the company websites are made on a very average basis, and more often than not, the amount of time taken and costs incurred would vary on the basis of the amount of goods you need to be transferred.

While checking the company websites, also try to find out if their charges and time estimates include the cost and time needed for packing your goods. Here it maybe important to mention that while some goods such as heavy furniture can do without serious packing, there are goods- such as delicate glass cabinets, clay showpieces, antique glass artifacts, crockery , etc that need to be packed very well. So in case you realize that you would need to pay extra for getting these goods packed, do not think twice, because taking such major risks is usually never worth it.

After having a good look through the company website contact the moving company and tell them about your need for moving services. Give them a detailed description about the things you need to transfer , your current location, the location to transfer the goods to, such as do you need moving in Toronto or some other place, the date you have scheduled for moving your goods, the amount of time in hand, the packaging needs , etc.

After you have communicated your needs to them, find out what they have to suggest to you. Often moving companies like to send over their agents to have a good look at the amount of goods and the nature of goods you possess to access tour requirements from a professional viewpoint, especially if you need long distance movers, or big office and apartment movers. Make sure that nothing important remains hidden from them, and in case you possess any hazardous goods or anything of any other special nature, communicate it to these agents immediately.

Once they have accessed the goods that need to be moved, you will get a close estimate, exact price quotation (depending on the company policy and your personal circumstances), and a moving estimate for time required for your goods relocation.
