It is vital you research and ask questions about your potential affiliate program before you commit to it as there are a number of things you have to consider when choosing one. By simply taking a little time out to make sure it’s the right one for you, you can save yourself untold headaches and make much more money further on down the line. Ensure you have all the answers you need in order to make an informed decision.

Often a customer won’t purchase the product straight away and will wait and do it 2 months down the line for example, so you need to be confident enough in your program that you will get paid and your referral will be tracked. Make sure there is a good tracking system in place, find out how long your referrals stay in the system before they are disregarded.

When Do I get paid? Is one of the most obvious questions you should ask. Some affiliate programs pay at different times and have different threshold levels. Some pay by wire transfer and others pay by cheque, these are all things you need to establish.

What credentials does the vendor have? Find out more about the person you'll be working with and see if they match your expectations. Also and most importantly, how much commission will you receive? Will there be a monthly commission? Sometimes there will be commission to be made on additional up-sells or backend products, clearly establish what percentage of these you will get before making your decision if you perform well, you can negotiate a higher commission level with the vendor at a later date.
