How to Train Executives for Free - By: Michael A. McGrath

Many companies find the training of employees to be expensive and time-consuming. With very few exceptions workers in companies do not enjoy training. When you perform tasks in certain ways for weeks, months or years training to do them differently is often met with resistance.

When an employer wants to develop their employees and even groom them for management positions training is required. Regardless of company specific training all staff must be trained in the basic team building skills and this is especially true in the business world.

Unfortunately training is often met with resistance and lack of enthusiasm by staff members and managers alike.

Not all employees want to be trained. Although there may be a small number that wish to progress and openly embrace training as a vehicle for advancement most workers do not enjoy the process. Training often becomes a difficult task as it is perceived as boring and sometimes unnecessary by staff members.

As a solution to these problems many business executives would be well advised to look at World of Warcraft (WoW). This innovative and engaging game is the most popular massively multiplayer online role playing game in the world.

Many top executives in the business world have openly praised WoW has the ability and innovative way of training mangers (albeit as a side-effect and not deliberately). However few business executives will have participated in it, despite the fact that over 11 million players are active subscribers to the game - a fact that brings with it a monthly subscription fee. Most people who do not play computer games view them as child's play or the realm of spotty teenagers. However, this is very far from the truth.

Far from being the domain of kids World of Warcraft attracts young adults between the age of 23 and 39 who actively play for approximately twenty-three hours a week.

This is all well and good but how is it relevant to training in the business sector you may be wondering?

WoW can have a dramatic effect on the training and skills of managers in almost every sector and can help team members in any occupation that requires team work!

World of Warcraft rewards players with experience points which they need to progress throughout the game. Experience points are gained by grinding (killing beats and baddies) and by successfully completing quests you are set. These quests and enemies become much more of a challenge as you move up the levels. It is the aim to get your character from the starting level of 1 to a level of 80 and also gain proficiency in several professions.

As you progress through the higher levels you must become much more mentally engaged in the game and the tasks that you must perform. Your character receives better upgraded equipment and weapons as a result of performing well at the higher levels and completing the tasks set forth.

There are also other ways to progress within the game. Players are also encouraged to join guilds within the game and interact with other players.

When you immerse yourself fully in the online warcraft experience you cannot help but get sucked into team play. You must quickly develop or improve your team skills and even organisational and managerial skills - the level you need to commit to this will depend on your role in your group or guild.

Playing world of warcraft is like no corporate team building event you will have undergone before and it can have a much greater effect. Consider instead getting your staff interested in world of warcraft and playing as a team. Then you can sit back and watch as a $10 a month game effortless trains your staff to peak performance!
