Yoga has become one of the most popular exercises in many big or small fitness clubs. With the popularity of Pilates, a lot of big stars in Hollywood are prone to do this exercise to maintain health and keep in shape. Some people incline to practice yoga, some intend to do Pilates. Reasons to leading to this result are the differences of ways to practice:

The word of yoga originates from Indian Sanskrit having the same pronunciation of yuj or yug, which means unit, combination and harmony. Yoga is a kind of static practice, of course, it doesn't mean no move, you can raise hands and stretch legs, but the point is to achieve the posture and then maintain this posture through your force, balance and toughness. Yoga also reflects different sports concepts of the east and west. Yoga focuses on the practice of the union of mind and body to get the state of the harmony of body and nature. In Yoga asana, many postures imitate animals' poses which contribute to inner organs. Ancient yoga believers had developed this system and believed, during the process of practice, yoga helps control noema and emotions to keep long-term health through meditation, exercising body and controlling breath. People who long-term practice yoga have an easy and simple mind to face things around them.

Pilates originated in Germany which reflects the fitness concept of western people of practice of muscles and physiology, such as the waist, abdomen, back, chest, hip and so on. Therefore, at first, Pilates is just only used in two fields - professional dance groups to training muscle and medical rehabilitation institutions to help patients recover muscle strength and organism function. Pilates is a kind of physical training merging together yoga, dance and gymnastics, which is dynamic. Pilates makes use of coordination of body exercise and breath to improve movement function. This exercise doesn't care if you do some perfect postures, but focus on the process producing much heat, so that it's an effective way to lose weight. When practice, the way of breath is to use nose to breathe in and mouth to out, however, yoga is to use nose to breathe in and out.

Although the two exercises have many differences, they all require the coordination of postures and breath, peaceful environment , bared feet and so on.
