How to Stop a Sinus Headache and the Alergies that Cause it - By: Richard Poulin

Sinus Headaches result from mucous building up in the sinuses, causing pressure and pain. The build-up of mucous is due to sinus inflammation and constriction. The pain of this kind of headache is felt in the front of the head, around the eyes and on the cheeks and temples, areas immediately above the underlying sinuses.

Sinuses are primarily located in the front of the head. These air filled cavities are normally filled with air and are part of our airways. Sinuses become obstructed by mucous if they're inflamed and their passages constricted. Trapped mucous builds -up and along with it so does pressure and this leads to a headache.

Some people suffer more from Sinus Headaches than others and for them they can be quite debilitating.

The most usual symptoms are:
-Pressure and pain across the cheeks and around the eyes
-Occasionally, a diffuse pain in their upper teeth area
-The cold shivers and fever of a cold or flu
-Swelling of the face over the cheeks
-Pain comparable to migraine pain
Sinusitis usually accompanies sinus Headaches but not always

You may also notice the following symptoms:
-Post nasal drip
-coloured mucous
-coughing
-Stuffed-up nose

What is it that results in Sinus Headaches?
Inflammation is almost always involved and that inflammation is usually caused by allergies and less commonly infections such as colds.
Environmental triggers, such as mold, pollen, dust-mites and cigarette smoke may intensify the severity of sinus headaches as well as their frequency. Household allergens causing Allergic Rhinitis are by far the most customary underlying cause of these headaches, notably mold and dust-mites. you may at times develop these headaches during or subsequent to an upper respiratory infection.

Good Tips that may prevent and/or lessen the effects and pain of sinus headache:
-Blow your nose often. It opens up the airways
-Just blow your nose. You'll help open the sinuses and promote drainage
-Try the occasional warm shower. They can promote sinus drainage and pressure relief
-Alternating cold and hot compresses on the forehead and nose area provides temporary relief of the pain.
-Using saline sprays may have tremendous benefits.
-Change bedding often and be sure to dust and wash your bedroom floors regularly.
-Conventional drugstore medicines have serious unwanted effects when over-used. If you have chronic or frequent sinus Headaches consider using natural, safe and effective alternatives to manage both pain and allergies.

See your doctor if you experience:
-Long-lasting fro which medicines do not seem to work.
-Severe, sudden headaches that last or get worse over time.
-An unusually painful headache that comes on suddenly.
-A painful headache to one side of the face with eye involvement or redness.
-Any headache with concurrent confusion or changes in speech or loss of balance.
-A headache with concurrent stiff neck, nausea or vomiting.
