How to Shop for a Digital Camera - By: Jennifer Crawley

The precious moments that pass each day should be remembered. Once a moment is gone, it's lost forever, unless you were fortunate to have a camera on hand. No longer do you have to worry yourself with cumbersome 35mm cameras and film canisters to get good shots. When you're ready to get serious about photography, you should get yourself a good digital camera.

If you are about to buy your very first digital camera, there are some factors that may enter into your purchase decision. The first thing you need to do is committing to an amount that you want to spend. It's very easy to get carried away once you start looking at all of the optional accessories and upgrades. Set a price and stick to it. There are great bargains out there, so don't worry about not getting a high quality camera if you don't spend too much.

If you don't know where to buy a digital camera, you can find them literally everywhere. From your neighborhood convenience store selling lesser named brands to high end camera and equipment stores, you can find lots of digital cameras. It seems that the best places to get quality digital photography equipment is at department stores specializing in electronics.

You can buy digital cameras online as well, new and used. Some people get great deals on new and used digital cameras on online auction sites. Many people begin buying basic digital cameras and work their way up to larger, more complex ones. If this is something you think you'll end up doing, it's a great idea to give your old camera to your kids. Encourage their interest in photography and teach them everything you're learning.

So, start looking online or go down to your local electronic retail store. You will find an array of brands and styles of digital cameras when you visit your local electronics store or your favorite online shopping site. Don't be overwhelmed. Don't feel like you have to go for one of the brand names, either. Many times, electronics retailers offer high quality products in their own generic lines. Many of these products are produced at the same plant where the brand name ones came from. Go for quality, that doesn't mean buying a trendy title.

Something you will really want to focus on is the resolution of the digital cameras you're browsing. You can determine the quality of the picture by looking at the resolution of the digital camera. A pixel is a little block of color. These millions of pixels make up the image that you take. The higher the mega pixels, the better the quality of your photos will be.

If you're planning on using this camera for a long time, then get a more advanced camera. A point and shoot camera will capture those fun moments you don't want to forget but they don't offer you much room to expand your skills. With a digital SLR camera, you can add filters, lenses and flashes to change things up and grow as a photographer.

The most important thing to think of when you're buying a digital camera is value for your money. You may find several cameras going for as low as $39 but you may not be very happy with what you get for your cash. Go with something that has decent resolution or you may as well just go back to your disposable camera. Get a camera that will give you the quality picture that you can be proud of.
