How to Remember Your Dream with Dream Rehearsal - By: cystic acne

The trick to recording/remembering your dreams is to lie very still, so you are still in a somnambulant state, your mind barely awake, your body still asleep, and go over your dreams. This is referred to as dream rehearsal.

Rehearsal the dreams over and over, not changing any details, but grabbing onto all of them that you can, almost as if you are downloading the file of dream details from your unconscious (dreaming) mind to your conscious mind. When you have rehearsed your dreams to the point where you really have a firm grasp on them in your mind, then and only then should you reach for that pen and paper or tape recorder to record the details. Otherwise, much of the detail will be lost simply in going from the sleep to wake state.

Fortunately, as you become more proficient in recalling dreams, this becomes less necessary. I no longer keep a dream journal, though I do still often rehearse my dreams before I get up, if for no other reason than to glean what information or even enjoyment from them. I have reached the point where I can now, without keeping a journal or even rehearsal, sit down hours or days later and type up in smallest detail my dreams, to the point that one dream will take me eight typed pages just to finish! (Since I have at least 5-10 long vivid dreams a night, you can see why I no longer keep a journal for most of my dreams!).

Anyway, my point is that the technique of rehearsal, which I learned and practiced for many years, is a very powerful tool in remembering dreams, not just right now, but in training yourself to be able to remember dreams even after you no longer use the technique. I know it does take some time to do, and a lot of people are rushed in the morning, but I would just set my alarm for about an hour early, shut it off, drift back into sleep state, (this also facilitates lucid dreams), and begin to pull up all the dreams and their details while in a semi-sleeping/semi-wake mode....
