When a relationship is over, the hurt feelings and sense of loss can be a lot for some people to handle. When the breakup comes after a long time relationship it can be even more devastating. How to get over a breakup will generally depend on the person? There are some people who may need to seek counseling to help them recover from the deep sense of loss. There are others who will bounce back on their own given the time.

Basically this is the factor that will do more for recovery than anything - time. However, the beginning of the healing process will be a part in which you will have to actively involve yourself. You must take the time to examine the feelings you are having and be willing to move to the future.

The next thing you will have to do whether you feel like it or not is to think about yourself. The diet and sleep are the most important things. You cannot live without food or sleep. You will need to take care of your body so that your heart can heal. Think about why you got involved in the relationship in the first place. Once you begin to think a little more clearly you will probably remember many things that you were the only one compromising on in this relationship. How fair was that? Do not sit at home and feel sorry for yourself. Go out, get some new hobbies and spend time with your friends. Let the world revolve around you rather than anyone else. Do not spend time worrying about where you went wrong in the relationship. This will be paramount to helping you to recover.

Instead of wasting time wondering what you could have done differently, go somewhere and be yourself. There are plenty of people in the world that appreciate someone who is genuine. Just because this relationship did not work does not mean it was something you did or did not do.

Talk to your friends and family. Letting your emotions out can help so that you do not keep everything bottled up inside. This is one of the major ways of starting the healing process. Moving on and finding something you are interested in will be one of the ways to recover. Join a health club, a class on something in which you are interested to help take your mind off the ended relationship.

Do not jump into another relationship right away. The time you have now should be spent on you. Concentrate on yourself and getting your life back in order. A rebound relationship is not what you need right now. It will only bring more hurt and that is not what you need right now. Soon you will be able to look back at the former relationship and see that it was not the right one for you. The future is up to you and how you help yourself to recover from a relationship that was not meant to be in the first place.
