Plantation shutters are actually easy to install given that you already know the accurate dimensions of your window. However, irregularly shaped windows are the exception when acquiring its proper measurements. These irregularly shaped windows won't also have plantation windows available for them so it is advised to get professional help in making irregularly shaped window shutters for your windows. Square windows, on the contrary, are no problem at all and all you need is a sturdy steel tape measure to find out the accurate dimensions of your windows. Your windows wherein the window shutters will be installed should be square because the inside mounts of the window shutters available in the market are all square.

Now that you are armed and ready in doing the proper measurements before installing plantation shutters, you can now start measuring. First, you need to determine whether your window can be installed with an inside mount. Starting from the left top corner of the window, spread the tape measure on to the right lower corner of the window making a diagonal measurement. Next, starting from the right top corner spread the tape measure on to the lower left corner of the window. Compare the two measurements that you have, if they are equal, your window is perfectly square it would definitely be easy installing in inside mount window shutters. However, if the measurements have a difference of more than half an inch, the window is shaped irregularly and you have to resort to installing an outside mount instead. If you can install inside mounts, you also need to determine if the window can allocate a one and a half inch space for the shutter trims, locks, and handles to make the plantation shutters operational.

For Outside mounts, excess in size of the plantation shutters are no problem at all since the window shutters will be installed outside the borders of the window. Irregularly shaped windows are commonly installed with specially made outside mounts. Inside mounts on the other hand, are all placed inside the window opening which requires the window to be square. Now that you already have the exact measurements of your window where you will put the plantation shutters, all you need to do is to find the plantation shutters that are best for your room. Manufacturers and window specialty stores offer a chart that contains all of the available sizes and designs of their panels which makes it a lot easier for you to choose .
