These adorable little peg bats look really cute on the washing line, but when you have pegs as cute as these bat clothes pegs you also are really good to decorating your house for Halloween. You can use them to peg up you Halloween cards to a line of string, or you can peg them to the curtains or lampshade. You could even use them to enhance your Halloween costume, or to decorate your hair. There are so many possibilities, these clothes peg bats are bound to drive you completely batty!

To make Bat pegs you will need…

Wooden sprung clothes pegs (one peg for each bat)
Matt black enamel paint (The sort you pain Airfix models with)
A sheet of black foam
Wobbly eyes and PVA glue
A bat wing template is freely available to print off on the site.

First you need to take the pegs to bits. Keep the metal springs in a safe place for later. And paint all the wooden parts with the matt black paint. They will probably only need one coat, but you do need to paint all sides so you will have to wait for one side to dry before painting the reverse side.

Once the wooden part of the pegs are dry, put the pegs back together again. You might need an adult to help you reassemble the pegs, as the springs can be very strong. You made need to touch up the black paint on some of the pegs.

Cut out bat wings from the foam. You need two wings for each bat.

Dab some clear drying PVA glue along the bat wing and stick it to the side of the peg. The top of the wing should be lined up with the spring in the peg. Leave this peg to one side to give the glue chance to dry before sticking the other wing on. Once both the wings are on, peg the bat onto a cup or something and leave to dry.

When the wings are dry, glue on some wobbly eyes to your bat, just above where the spring in the peg is. Once the glue is dry, you bat is ready to hang around and look spooky.
