How to Give Clutter-Free Birthday Wishes - By: Dale Stevenson

Birthdays are a wonderful time to make someone feel wonderful. Gifts and cards are traditionally given to show that human being what they mean to us. However, it's obvious from that popularity of auction websites like eBay, the prevalence of thrift stores and yard sales, and the relatively new developments (and public awareness) involving concepts like professional organizers and hoarding that Americans from all socioeconomic groups have too much stuff.

There are many ways to show a person how much you care about them and not having to give them something that they may dislike and will spend up space in their home. Gift cards and certificates are available, but they sometimes lack the impact of something personally picked.

Make a Difference

The best birthday wishes are those that transfer a gift to people, animal or entity in need. For example, you could make a donation in the name of the one who is having a birthday celebration, either toward an organization which helps people or animals, or directly to a person. You might register the birthday person to be an ongoing sponsor on the needy child or animal and pay the required amount of cash in their name, either for a specific period of period or indefinitely.

Give an Experience

Most people hold memories much dearer than material possessions. By giving some sort of birthday experience, you give a gift that will never be forgotten, broken or lost. Experiences can be shared by you and the recipient, shared by the recipient and a significant other or friend, or given to the birthday celebrant alone. For women (and some men!), you can plan a spa day together or search for spa package for her. Another option is to buy tickets to your show, concert or athletic event. Sign them up for a seminar or short class. A mini vacation would be another welcome birthday wish granted!

Feed It for many years

Obesity is epidemic in this country, but you don't have to give you a calorie-laden cake for every birthday. Take your friend or relative out to get a meal at the gourmet restaurant of their choosing that they would never go to otherwise. Schedule a "cook's day off" for your kids and deliver pre-made meals to their door that morning. Additionally, just make them a special batch of whatever dish they love!

Offer a Service

The service can be something provided by you or by someone else. Services can be given on an ongoing regular basis, in exchange for coupons that you make for and are redeemed by the birthday celebrant, or to get a one-time special gift. Depending on what you're good at, or that which you can afford to pay an expert for, you could give following services:

  • photography

  • personal exercising

  • scrapbooking

  • cooking

  • organizing

  • auto maintenance and repair

  • baby, pet, plant, and/or house sitting

Your options are endless. By getting out of the commercialized birthday custom, you really will be giving something that nobody would wish to re-gift, even if they could!
.
As a parent you imagine all the wonderful ways you certainly will bond with your child and all the beautiful memories you certainly will create. But, in truth, the memories are mainly for the parent to keep (or preserve in photo or video) because most is definately not retained by your child.
