If there is one common misconception for how to get rid of belly fat, it is that ab crunches and sit-ups will make those pockets of fat on your abdomen disappear. In reality, crunches burn very little calories or fat and fat is what covers the abdominal muscles and you most want to get rid of. Losing belly fat and gaining washboard abs are never going to come out of ab crunches alone. You need to change your eating and exercise habits in order to thin your mid section and stop feeling disgusted by your flabby tummy.

There are three things you will have to do if you want to get rid of your belly fat.

Diet – This has nothing to do with the latest diet fad. This has everything to do with the nutritional value of the food you eat. Your body is a high performance machine. It needs protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and vitamins and minerals to function properly. A lean healthy diet will allow your body to metabolize its fate store more efficiently

Did you know drinking less is how to get rid of belly fat! No not less water but less booze and sugary drinks - it's high in BAD calories. So Drink more WATER! But this is often over looked - and by cutting it down or completely, you'll lose the inches fast.

Boost activity by building incidental exercise into your day - park further away from your destination and walk, take the stairs, walk and talk to colleagues instead of sending emails, offer to mow your neighbor's lawn, get up at least every hour and walk around. All the little extras combined can make a big difference to your health.

Eat Protein

Add protein to every meal in your diet. Protein is key to maintain and build lean muscle, plus the high thermic level in protein helps burn more fat before it gets digested. This is extremely powerful when it comes to helping you get rid of belly fat fast.

Resistance Training

Add weight training or bodyweight training to your workout. Resistance triggers your body to build muscle. You are going to incorporate compound exercises like squats, pushups, deadlifts etc... that work major muscle groups so that you create more shock in your body to burn fat.

Now this is truly the best way to get rid of belly fat - GET INTO THE HABIT. Try to do at least two things to get closer to your goal each day. Even if you don't have time for a full workout, take a 10 minute walk around the block. Or if you're ordering take away, choose a menu for healthy salad or vegetarian dish. Every small choice you make can make a difference and increase your chance to get rid of stomach fat.

Eat more often.

One of the easiest way to boost your metabolism and burn fat faster is to eat often. That means a small, healthy meal or snack about every 2-3 hours. Many fat loss/fitness experts recommend up to 7 small meals a day to keep the metabolism red hot. Eating frequently also guarantees that you won't get overly hungry and end up overeating at any one meal. It also helps you avoid making poor food choices.

Remember to include a small amount of protein and, if possible, a small amount of healthy fat in nearly all your meals.
