Getting people’s attention may seem like a skill without a lot of use. In practice, this subtle skill can have quite the influence on your popularity, social life or career success.

When you can get people’s attention, it means you can open a broad channel of communication with them. They hear, understand and remember what you say better, and they also remember you.

This means that you can have a much stronger impact on people and on the things happening around you. With this in mind, here are my simplest and most powerful tips for getting people’s attention.

1. Be somewhat loud. The persons who speak in a weak, scrawny voice rarely get others to listen to them. If you don’t want to be ignored, make sure people can hear everything you say loud and clear. It doesn’t mean that you need to scream when you speak, but you do want to have a good speaking volume.

2. Hold eye contact. When you’re talking to somebody and you’re staring and the floor instead of looking at them, you seem nervous, insecure and even insincere. It’s very important to look people in the eyes when you’re talking to them. Even if it may be difficult at first, do it anyway.

3. Have interesting ideas. Interesting persons have interesting ideas, and because of this, they are able not only to get people’s attention, but to be the center of attention. Focus on learning, experimenting and growing as a person, as this will help you the most to acquire interesting knowledge to share.

4. Be a good storyteller. You can fascinate other with stories, especially if you’re good at telling them. Storytelling skills can be developed by consciously practicing telling stories and calibrating the way you communicate when doing so. In time, you can significantly increase your social allure and get more attention.
