Firstly, if you want to increase the speed of toning of your body and training of your muscles, you must do so slowly. Do not dive straight into extremely intensive exercise routines, as that may backfire and end up injuring you instead. Rather, you should increase the loads slowly – perhaps you could work with free weights, and add on weight gradually each month. That way, your body will be given sufficient time to adapt to the new exercise routine.

Also, if you are just starting out and trying a beginner’s workout, be sure to set realistic goals for yourself. Perhaps aim to exercise three times a week, doing milder exercises such as swimming workouts or fun and enjoyable cardiovascular exercises that you can do with your friends. You may even want to take up an aerobics course together! That way you can start off slow, but still make substantial progress in your fitness exercises. Remember that setting unrealistic goals off the bat will not help you in fat burning and muscle building at all. Instead, you may feel disappointed if results do not show in the earlier stages and that is precisely what you want to avoid.

Next, remember to avoid crash-dieting. Do not starve yourself or go on a fast just to lose weight and burn fat. This will actually be detrimental to your nutrition and level of fitness as well. Although it seems that lowering your food intake greatly will help you to lose weight, the fact remains that if your stomach is empty for too long, your metabolism will actually decline. That makes it even harder for you to build muscle and burn fat from then on. Furthermore, your body will shut down as energy expenditure will be close to impossible, and proceed to use your proteins in your muscles to supplement the carbohydrates which you will lack if you do not eat and maintain a healthy diet. As a result, your abs that you have worked so hard to achieve will shrink and gradually disappear.

Finally, if you are doing any kinds of exercise at the gym – be it strength training, weight lifting or running on the treadmill, remember that having a healthy diet is also crucial to fat burning and fat loss. If you want energy to exercise, and if you want your muscles to be more prominent, then you should eat a full and healthy breakfast before your daily workout.
