How to Fix the Disc Tray Errors of Your Xbox 360 - By: Willhemina Johnson

There are many reasons why one is unable to play his Xbox 360. These include the disc tray being trapped in a close or open situation, the disc not playing, the console showing “reading” and “open tray” but nothing happens after, and the following error messages, “The disc is unreadable” and “To play this disc please put it in an Xbox 360 console.”
In order to repair these problems, here are specific solutions you can use on your own.

1. The disc drive is trapped in an open position.
First, check the power button. If the middle light is green, take away any disc from the tray and press on the expel button of the console. If the console closes, press on the expel button again in order to reopen it. Put in the disc you want to use and try to open and close the disc tray.
You have to make sure that the disc has no dust and graze. If there are labels, you should also ensure that they are not the source of the trouble. If the problem keeps, make sure that the faceplate is fixed to the Xbox suitably. If its not, push the faceplate tightly until you hear a snap. Press the expel button and see if the disc opens and closes properly. If the problem still keeps on, try to move the disc to the right and right, and up and down. Then, press the expel button again to check if it opens and closes properly.

If the ring of light power button is red, recreate the power connections. First, turn off the Xbox 360 console. Take away the power cord and unplug it from the power source. Then, do again all connections. Switch on the console and see if the power button is green. Then, you can open and close the disc tray.
Get rid of the muddle around your Xbox 360. Clear the part around your Xbox and make sure that it is spacious. Your Xbox should be placed on a tough surface away from any source of heat. If the device overheated, switch the console off. Let it cool down for an hour, then, start it again.
The ring of light has actually four red lights. If all these lights are flashing, it usually indicates a problem with the A/V connections. Switch the console off and take out all A/V connections from your TV and console. Reconnect them and restart the console and see if the light is green.
If all the above methods did not work, you may need to send you Xbox 360 to the repair shops.
If the middle light is not lit, use your bare hands to press the power button. Remove then reconnect the power source. Try to fix it to an electrical outlet. Switch the Xbox on and let it cool down before using it again.

2. The disk drive is trapped in close position. If the middle light is green, check if there is a plastic strip on the disc tray’s obverse side. Get rid of the strip and expel the disc tray. On the other hand, you need to troubleshoot the Xbox as discussed on the first problem if the ring of light is red or not lit.

3. Unable to read the disc error. This happens when you have an unclean disc. Thus, you need to clean the disc by holding it from the boundaries. Using a damp cloth, clean the disc by wiping from the center to outside. Then insert the disc again to see if it works.

If the above methods do not fix your Xbox 360, the problem may be with the device. Thus, you need to send it to Microsoft for repairs. This may take 3-4 weeks. However, if you do not want to wait that long and your Xbox is out of the warranty period, you can purchase an Xbox repair guide that will help you repair the device yourself.
