How to Choose Security Companies - By: Richard K Paul

Correctly and strategically placed security guards can help reduce and report crime and also rule out infractions and detect any suspicious activity that might be going on. It is also an important thing as it can help protect your employees and visitors at work and your family and you at home. Let’s take a look at a few things to keep in mind when choosing a security firm:

• When you think of hiring security services, may it be for an ongoing basis or for a special event; it is a good idea that you talk to at least 3 companies so that you can compare their rates and services on offer.

• Make sure that the security firm that you are considering has the required licenses and permits to operate in your city and state. Also make sure that they have an adequate insurance cover to take care of your situations. A good idea is to run the firm’s insurance policy by your insurance advisor to see if the company is viable.

• When you conduct the interviews, ask if there have been any incidents involving one of their employees on their client’s property and if yes, how was the issue solved.

• Ask for the company’s references and call them and ask about the past work that they have undertaken. While most companies will give references of companies that have had a good experience with them, at least you will get a good idea of how they work.

• Ask how many years of experience they have in this field as this ensures that they know what they are doing. Ask about what qualifications they have and what all work have they undertaken in the past. You could consider the name ADS Security Services PTY Ltd. Check them out at http://www.ads.org.au

• Ask to meet the person who will be assigned to your security needs. As you will be in contact with him more than anyone else it is essential that you know if he is easy to work with.

• Discuss the reasons why you need security and ask if the firm can meet these requirements. Once you agree with the security firm, then the firm must offer you a written document that states what the security guard is required to do on site and how he will go about it.

• Ask how the firm’s management will handle complaints regarding their employees. For example a guard keeps coming late to work or does not perform well, then what steps will be taken? Are you permitted to ask for a replacement if you are not happy with the present security guard?

• Also ask about the background checks and the training the security guard receives. Also confirm if the same security guard will be assigned to your property everyday.

• Confirm that the firm has worked with a property like yours or for the special event you have in mind as the requirements keep changing.

• Cost is an important consideration. Ask for a complete breakdown of the costs and what all you will be charged for. Also ask how you will be making the payments and also are the rates; hourly, weekly or monthly. Ask if there are any hidden charges?
