List building should always be at the top of your priorities when it comes to building your online business. This refers to the activities you engage in on a regular basis to attract new prospects to your list, and to keeping those people on your list by developing a relationship with them over time.

Even though I am adamant about the fact that you can definitely make big money with even a small list of less than one thousand names, your ongoing goal should be to continue to increase your list size daily. I have found that the social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are excellent sites in which to do this.

These sites did not come of age until around 2007, so remember that you have access to your prospects in a way that simply was not available before that time. Take full advantage of this by interacting with others and showing the world what you are knowledgeable about.

Holding regular free teleseminars and inviting the people you know online will give you the perfect opportunity to do this. I have a simple optin page that I am able to easily make changes to myself. Every time I schedule another teleseminar I modify that page to show the new date, time, and topic.

Then I tell everyone on Twitter and Facebook, including a link to the page where they can sign up to get the call in details. On LinkedIn I create an event with this information. You can also do this on Facebook and invite each of your friends. On the day of the call you can tweet about your topic throughout the day.

Try to get your followers to ask you questions so that you can have more interaction with them about your topic. Also, if anyone asks you a question you do not know the answer to, you will be able to do some research and find out what you need to know before you do your call. This also gives a better idea of what your prospects want to know and expect you to know on the topic you will be discussing.

Once people are a part of your list, engage them regularly. This can be done by inviting them to join you for teleseminars, to read your blog posts and articles, and to respond to your emails.

You will find that the relationship you spend time developing with your prospects will pay off handsomely over time.
