Water’s importance
Our body’s most important need is water. We are made up of 70% water, which is the most critical fluid in the entire body. All of our functions run primarily through water and large amounts of water thus should be taken in for good health as water helps wash out waste and transport nutrients to where they are required.

When are we dehydrated?
Our bodies are designed to cool down, eliminate waste and intake oxygen, and all these functions make our body lose water. We actually lose about 2.5 liters of water on a daily basis through our regular body functions. For people who are working out or are physically active, this loss of water is greater. Thirst may be the most obvious sign of dehydration but it comes at a very late stage, and the need for water occurs much before this indication.

When we are mildly dehydrated, we may feel chronic pain in the joints and muscles, along with the lower back, we may be constipated and may have a headache. Our urine will have a strong color (yellow or amber) and may give a strong odor as well.

So is our body acidic?
When we are acidic inside, our body does not let us lose weight, makes us an insomniac, retains water, brings on migraine headaches, and we may get constipated, have arthritis, or even cancer! A body which is overly acidic actually becomes weak in immunity and may be very prone to diseases.

Acidic conditions in the body build up because of junk food, sodas, coffee and alcohol. Eating proteins, carbohydrates and fats can also lead to acidity. Stress and environmental toxins can lead to acidity in the body as well. This shows why we should aim at drinking an alkaline beverage so that our body can be alkaline again.

The pH Balance of our body:
Our body has a pH balance which is alkaline in nature. Our body aims at maintaining a pH level of 7.34 – 7.45 on a continuous basis and deviating from this balance can even result in our death. To help the body restore this balance, we can aim at having a proper diet and drinking plenty of alkaline ionized water. Alkalizing foods like vegetables and fruits which are low in sugar content can be eaten to cut down on acidity in the body.

What is the acidic/ alkaline balance?
Scientists generally measure the pH level or potential hydrogen level of any substance to see how acidic or alkaline that substance is. The pH level at seven means neutral while the lower scale means acidic and the higher scale means alkaline. Most people have an acidic body primarily because of their dietary habits and a heavy dependence on brands of bottled water, leading to a high acidity in the body.
