How does your website perform? - By: Robert S. Jones

Failing to plan is like planning to fail when you build a website. If you don’t take the right steps to ensure the smooth running of it, it will just end up being a really expensive greeting card! It doesn’t matter the scale of your business, it doesn’t matter what business you are in, it doesn’t even really matter if it is a little basic. The most important thing is that you run it properly and get the maximum benefit from it.

Analysis tools are vital to measure your traffic against the quantity of visitors who performed an action, for instance purchased a product or entered their information. You also need to understand how they got there and why. To work out the conversion rate of a unique function of the website you'll divide the number of actions by the amount of traffic and multiply it by 100

For example, you have 5000 visitors to your site and 125 sign up to your newsletter:
125/5000 = 0.025 0.025 x 100 =2.5% conversion

Not everyone who signs up to your news letter will eventually become your customer so you need to also be aware of the conversion rate of your actions, versus actual sales.. It can be quite overwhelming at first but it becomes second nature one you get your head around it.

Visual arrangement is another massive factor in the performance of your website, how well does your site flow together? Where is the capture form positioned? What colours have you used? All these things, as small as they could appear, can and will ultimately have an effect on your bottom line.

In the opinion of some, the most important factor of a website is the content. If you can resonate with your target audience then you are most definitely onto a winner. Ask questions of your audience to see what they would like from a product or service and deliver it to them. Good luck with it all and i wish you all the success in the world.
