How do you become a swim instructor? - By: rokstester01

There are many things that you have to look into if becoming a swim instructor is your ultimate goal, but it is not as difficult as you might think to get started in this field. Many people have gotten their start as a swim instructor and it can pay dividends in time. Being a swim instructor is a rewarding thing, since you get to help people succeed and you get to watch them improve on a daily and weekly basis. Still, there are some requisite skills that you better be aware of if you want to make it as a swim instructor out there.

Getting lifeguard certification and further training
Before you can become a swim instructor , you have to have the training and skills that it takes to get hired. This means going through lifeguard training first and foremost. A swim instructor will have to pass a lifeguard test to make sure that you have the ability to save people and to handle the rigors of working in the water. In addition to that, you will have to go through CPR training if you want to become a swim instructor. These things are not difficult to complete, but you will have to spend the time on them.

Where do I look for jobs as a swim instructor?
If you want to be a swim instructor, you have a couple of different options. The first step is obviously getting your lifeguard certificate, which can open up some doors to different jobs in itself. Some people start out as a swim instructor at a local pool after they have been hired as a lifeguard. These pools will sometimes offer lessons as an incentive for people to sign up for membership and they need a swim instructor to make this happen. Likewise, you could get a swim instructor job through a fitness club, since the majority of those clubs offer some sort of swimming program for both kids and anyone else who is interested.

Becoming a self-contracting swim instructor
Another popular option is setting up lessons on your own. If you have the initiative to go out and become a swim instructor, then you probably have the skills to advertise your services and attract some clients. Especially during the summer months, there are many parents out there that will pay people solid money to train their kids in how to swim properly.
