We are accustomed to the phrase 'Pay as you Go' because it was made popular by the mobile phone industry. Instead of having a contract, you pay for the service as you need it, or paying for the service as you go along. So it wont come as much of a surprise that a pay as you go Kiosk, is an internet kiosk that is both coin operated as well as being able to accept payment by credit or debit cards, to pay for access to the internet via the Public Access Terminal or kiosk.

How a Pay as you Go Internet Kiosks works
The Internet kiosk or terminal is just like a home computer with all the usual software that the generally public are used to when they are browsing the Internet. The kiosk has a screen; keyboard and a tracker ball, which behaves like a mouse. The terminal can have audio if the kiosk is to go inside a booth where the sound would be muffled as to not disturb other customers close by.

The customer would have to make a payment, either with coins or a debit or credit card and the payment would enable Internet access of the terminal. Payment could also be made using tokens or by a voucher code being presented to the user. A voucher might be made available by a customer making a purchase at a coffee shop for instance.

The fee is usually per hour or minute, payable in advance. The kiosk gives a warning when the user is down to their last 3 minutes of credit. This gives kiosk users the opportunity to complete what they are doing, or to top up their credit. When the credit time is up, the kiosk simply logs them out ready for the next user. During the log-out process the users' browsing history, cookies and other data will be removed so the next user is presented with a fresh screen.

Pay as you go Internet Kiosks are useful to people who either don't have access to the Internet at home, or if they don't have access to the Internet whilst they are out and away from their computer terminal. It enables people to check their emails, view online statistics, check their online banking, make travel arrangements, pass the time and check online social networking sites, look up local tourist information. Because as a society we have become so dependent on the Internet to organise our lives, keep connected and for entertainment that passers by can't resist using an Internet terminal. Which is why we find so many reasons to take advantage of Internet Kiosks when there is one available to use.

Pay as you go Internet Kiosks lend themselves to unmanned Internet cafes or Cyber Cafes. Because they don't need a member of staff to take payments or to set the allocated time for each user, this increases Internet café profit margin. In a similar way Internet Kiosks are ideal for hotel rooms. Offering customers Internet access with no additional customer service from the hotel staff.

But Internet kiosks are not just ideal for locations where people stay for long periods; they are also really useful where people are passing through. Because you can pay by the minute, a traveller can pay for just 5 minutes and access the Internet whilst waiting for their connecting train for example. Internet kiosks are ideal for stations, bus stations, air ports, sea ports, on train carriages, in shopping centres and anywhere that there is passing foot traffic.

An Internet kiosks can be wall mounted, this is space saving and great for busy locations. The wall mounted kiosks also is able to have a booth like hood over it to muffle sound from the passing traffic as to offer some privacy for the kiosk user. Wall mounted kiosks are also suitable for use on train carriages.

Desk mount kiosk are also available, which are most suitable for Internet Cafes and hotel rooms where a user might use the terminal for a longer session. A desk-mounted kiosk allows the user to browse the Internet seated in comfort.

The internet kiosks can also be combined with mobile device charging technology so you can charge your mobile phone or other product whilst browsing the web.
