How To Write A Novel In A Hundred Days Or Less - By: ArticleSubmit Auto

So you've got a vague idea for a novel in your head, and you think you can get it out on paper? Well, you probably can and what's more, you can likely do it much faster than you realize. All you need is a solid plan, a couple of uninterrupted hours a day, as much coffee as you can drink, and your good. How do you do this? Keep reading.

The first step is to create all your characters. There are plenty of ways to do this, but you want to make them as real and as concrete as you can. Describe them in much more detail than you would in your book, describe all of their strengths and weaknesses, and put them in various situations just to see how they'd react. Give yourself two weeks for this step.

Next is to create the basic outline of your plot. It should contain each individual scene, written down in one or two sentences describing what happens. Some people use business size cards and arrange everything out on a big table, while others use some of the software programs out there that was developed for this particular step. This step should take about two weeks.

Now you've got your characters and the plot outlined, it's time to start writing. Your job is to sit down, and write non stop for two hours every day. Even if you write gibberish (which you won't since you've already got the plot and the characters already figured out), keep on writing. Worry about correcting later. If you write two hours per day, you should be able to write a couple thousand words a day. At least. Shoot for three thousand if you can. This will give you a good length in about a month.

Now you've got a pretty rough draft finished, it's time to go through and polish it. The first pass through, focus only on the spelling and grammar errors. Nothing else. The second and third pass is when you should focus on the actual writing and make any changes you think are necessary. It can be helpful to get a second opinion, but it's not necessary. Give yourself another month for this step.

And that's it. You're done. Two weeks to create the characters, two weeks to figure out the story line, a month to write it, and a month to rewrite it. Once you hand it over to your agent, you can get started on your next book.
