How To Upgrade Your Kitchen's Design - By: Jonathan Walker - Big Blue Tomato

Some people are driven to distraction by their kitchen. With no pun intended, it can certainly be the epicentre of domestic dispute. It’s so easy to look at all of the magazines and websites and get sucked into the images, and then go off into some daydream about kitchen wonderment. So a question that needs to be put to these people is ‘If you want a new kitchen so desperately, why don’t you just get one?’

It ain’t that simple though, is it? Why? Money, that’s why!

Mention it to your spouse and you could well have them running for fiscal cover. The words kitchen remodelling project may as well translate in monetary language to ‘your wallet is going to die of starvation.’ But there is a solution, so never fear. Below are some excellent techniques to make sure that your designs on a new kitchen can be affordable.

There is a way to create a really excellent kitchen for yourself, and this way is to revise the floor plan of your kitchen. Do this and you’re onto a winner.

Having an extension is one way to create a greater amount of floor space in your kitchen, but cheap it is not. Such extensions are heavily priced, with bills coming in from fitters, welders, roofers, plumbers, plasterers, engineers, and surveyors. This is even if you get planning permission. Costs can get really high as well, if any unforeseen problems arise.

To come up with a solution that is more cost effective, you need to be looking around your kitchen for ways in which you may be able to create space from the inside. Look to see if there are parts of adjoining rooms that you could do without, as these could possibly be made into parts of your kitchen. The removal of a non-weight bearing wall is cost effective and can enhance the design of your house to quite an alarming extent. A lot of valuable space can be created in this way.

So you fancy a little bit of total efficiency do you? Then it has got to be the good old gallery kitchen. Some people tend to dislike these as they feel that they cause a crammed stuffy effect, that makes them want to swing a gerbil about, just to prove a point. If you are4 worried about this then you can make slight adjustments, such as making the cooking area smaller, in order for an eating area to be added. Why not create the best atmosphere available, by linking your kitchen with the family room? That sounds unbeatable!

Think cool kitchen, think island. Islands are great because they are flexible, and they instantaneously create work space. Another excellent thing about islands is that they don’t have to match the rest of the kitchen, and still look relatively acceptable.
