Trying to age gracefully may sound nice, but its not as easy as it sounds. Growing older isn't easy, but you don't have a choice. However, you can take the bull by the horn and be in control of how you age, remaining healthy and happy through the latter years.

Continue to challenge your body by staying active, even as you age. Many people become sedentary when they get older. They give up on playing sports and choose to instead watch them on television. However, this behavior ends up leading to loss of strength and muscle tone. A simple way to remain healthy and active is to include outdoor activities in your schedule. Go for a walk, do some gardening, or play with your grandchildren and pets each day.

Don't hang around grouch, negative people.Surround your self with positive, cheerful friends instead. If you're around people who laugh and smile a lot, you will do the same. This can help you to age well and keep you feeling vibrant. Therefore, you should spend time with people who bring you joy and laughter, not with people who make you unhappy.

Do the things you love, but be safe about it. Staying active is key to maintaining your energy and fitness levels.

A positive attitude is important as you age. Making others happy will no doubt make you feel happy too. You can be altruistic without spending money and making others happy is a priceless gift.

It is important to get the right amount of rest each night. Make sure that you get the proper amount of sleep each night as this is when your body repairs and regenerates itself. Swimming is a great exercise, if you like it try to do it. Try some stretching in the comfort of your own home. Go bicycling with your grandkids. If you do activities that you enjoy that incorporate exercise, that would be great.

To feel better about growing older, come up with a new hobby or return to an old one to keep you busy during retirement. You now have enough time to focus on yourself and do what you have always wanted to. Hobbies provide you an excellent conduit for engagement and interaction with pursuits away from your home.

To reduce the effects of aging on your skin, regularly practice self-massage in your facial area. The act of massaging increase blood flow to the surface to help reduce puffiness under your eyes and it helps prevent sagging and wrinkling. Massage your face with circular motions, using three fingers.

Protect yourself from fraud. Many thieves go after older people as they are more vulnerable. Protect yourself by refusing to give your bank information to anyone, by shredding papers with personal information on them and requiring outsiders to present identification when they come to your home. These steps will help you keep your money secure with you.

Be sure to visit your doctor regularly for check-ups. Seeing your physician for a regular exam can help identify any major health concerns or potential diseases. When caught early, many diseases, including cancer, can be more successfully treated.

Always request a copy of your medical records. If you see another doctor or visit a specialist, it's helpful to have your own set of records to show them.
