How To Prepare Your Home For Your Breast Surgery Recovery - By: Allyson Quesada

Plastic surgery is big business in our modern world. No matter what aesthetic calamity your body suffers from, there is a surgical solution for it. Whether you want larger breasts or a firmer neck or a reduction in facial wrinkles, a solution can be remedied by hiring a skilled plastic surgeon to work miracles on your body with his scalpel by removing the offending tissue, relocating or reshaping it, or perhaps by adding to your body with a medical device, such as a breast implant.

The physical effects of aging cannot be avoided - all women must accept them and all women must gracefully accept their diminishing sex appeal that coincides with each passing year. Thanks to modern medicine and highly skilled plastic surgeons, some of those effects can be eliminated from a woman's body. For the aging woman, the most likely surgical procedure she'll purchase to thwart the aging process is a breast lift procedure.

A breast lift procedure produces almost miraculous results for the modern woman. For a few thousand dollars and three or four months of recovery time, the aging woman can restore her breasts to a much more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Most women take that option for granted; it wasn't too long ago that a woman's options for lifting and reshaping her breasts were restricted to merely mechanical devices.

When a surgeon performs a breast lift, he will be deliberately removing excess fat and tissue from her breast in order to reshape and lift the breast to a higher sitting position on the chest. The general goal is to mimic the characteristics of youthful breasts; young women have perky, firm breasts that sit high on their chest. Additionally, when a young woman removes her clothing, her breasts will not sag or droop; they appear to be immune to the effects of aging. It's those characteristics that a surgeon will attempt to instill into an older woman's breasts when he performs a breast lift procedure.

The first and most crucial step towards a successful breast lift procedure is to find a quality plastic surgeon to do the job. You should begin your research at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website. Their online database can provide you with a list of qualified breast lift surgeons that are within your geographic area.

Do you have unanswered questions in regards to the surgery and the recovery process? Of course you do! You'll need to organize your questions into a list that you can take with you for each consultation with a plastic surgeon. You will also need to bring a notepad and pen and take really good notes while you're interviewing each surgeon.

While it will take some research to find a great breast lift surgeon, there's already one doctor that knows your body extremely well - you should consult with him prior to undergoing any form of invasive surgery. That doctor is your family doctor. He or she knows your body better than anyone else and may have some valuable input for your plastic surgeon that could potentially impact the results of your surgery.

A breast lift surgery is a relatively easy procedure for a plastic surgeon to perform. However, as with any invasive surgery, there comes with it a certain level of risk that can't be avoided. The surgery is extremely stressful on the body. The surgical changes the plastic surgeon will perform on your body will require several months or longer of recovery. Obviously, the better your overall health, the quicker your body will recover from the procedure. Outside of being a healthy individual, there are a few simple suggestions that will help with your recovery process.

Smoking is a bad habit. Everyone knows that fact. The more you smoke, the quicker you age and the more your immune system suffers as a result. If you're a smoker, you'll need to quit for at least three or four months prior to your surgery. And you shouldn't smoke for at least the same amount of time after your surgery. If you've been a heavy smoker your entire life, chances are that you will be rejected for the surgical procedure altogether if your surgeon feels your skin elasticity is not strong enough to bounce back from the invasive surgery.

While alcohol consumption is not nearly as damaging to a person's body as smoking, it does inhibit the body's natural healing process. Try to abstain from drinking alcohol for at least a few weeks prior to your surgical procedure and for at least the first month of your recovery.

Losing weight can positively impact a surgical procedure. There are many complications that can occur during surgery. For some of those complications, their chance of occurrence can be greatly diminished by weight loss. To learn more about how excess weight can be the catalyst for surgery complications, speak with a licensed plastic surgeon.

Do you have a good friend or family member that can drive you home after your surgery? If not, you'll need to find someone you can trust that can care for you during those first few hours after surgery. Your body will be weak and your mind will be foggy immediately after surgery; someone will need to drive you home and help you into your bed so you can begin your recovery process.

Prior to undergoing surgery, you should invest time and energy into preparing your household for recovering from your procedure.

Is your refrigerator bare? If so, you'll need to stock up on food and water prior to surgery. You will not be able to safely drive a car for at least a few weeks following your surgery. With that in mind, you'll need to purchase enough food to last at least a few weeks. If your tap water isn't high enough quality for drinking, you should also purchase plenty of bottled water.

After any form of breast enhancement surgery, a woman will find it difficult to raise her arms above shoulder level. Prior to your surgery, you should walk around your home and take note of anything that will require significant strength or the raising of your arms in order to use. You'll need to lower those items to waist-high level.

Ice packs are great for reducing the swelling in your breasts. You should purchase re-usable packs and keep them in your freezer. You'll need them during the first few weeks of your recovery.

During the first few days of your recovery, you'll be bedridden for the most part. You should make sure your remote controls are within reach and that they all have new batteries. Do you have a cordless telephone or a cell phone that you can keep beside your bed? If so, make sure you've planned ahead by having a charging station beside your bed as well. If for any reason you need to contact your surgeon or a family member for help, you'll need the ability to plug in your phone for direct power in the event its battery has expired.

One last bit of recommendation is to take photographs of your breasts every few days following your surgery. The healing process will be more noticeable in the pictures.

Before you decide to undergo invasive surgery, you'll need to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in breast lifts. Only a licensed doctor should provide you with medical counsel relating to your health decisions.
