How To Make Your Home Allergen Free - By: Sarah McCurdy

Your home is supposed to be the place you can go to get away from all of the triggers that can cause allergies but for many people, their home could actually be the cause of allergy symptoms. The most common allergens that affect people the strongest are dust and mold. Unfortunately, many homes are loaded with dust mites and mold spores.

So how do we deal with this problem and get rid of these triggers in the home in order to control our allergy and asthma symptoms?

Well, obviously the first thing you can do is clean your home thoroughly. Many people think that by dusting they are getting rid of all of the dust in the home. This is not true as the majority of the dust is simply spread around and will settle back down eventually. By using a HEPA vacuum cleaner, you can be sure that most of the dust is collected and removed. Make sure that you vacuum regularly as dust can accumulate faster than people think. Also, change the filter periodically in the vacuum cleaner or it will not be effective.

If you have a lot of carpet throughout your home, it is a good idea to use a quality steam cleaner on your rug as the steam will get deep into the carpet and kill the dust mites. But at the same time, you must make sure that the carpet dries fairly quickly because mold spores will form and this is the last thing you want if you have allergies.

Also make sure that your bedding is fresh and clean. For people with severe allergies that are extremely sensitive, anti allergy bedding may be required. Get the whole set including a mattress and this will be very effective in controlling dust mites. One very important thing that people overlook in their home is humidity levels. A very humid home can lead to mold growth and cause havoc on your health.

By taking these simple steps, you can greatly reduce the symptoms of asthma and once again be able to live in your home allergy free.
