If you are enterprising and responsive, you can create a loyal following and you can increase your income with PPC advertising or other forms of marketing.

Long Distance Consulting: You don't really have to set up a website at all with this second category. You can work from home as a freelance consultant and work with clients from around the world. Whether you are a graphic designer, programmer or copywriter there are established freelancing sites that can connect you with reliable clients and exciting projects. The world is your oyster as they say. By offering your skills to those who want them you can control your working hours and make a profit working from home.

In both these cases, you are using the Web as a means of networking and meeting people without leaving the comfort of your own home. If you are good at doing things with your hands and your friends love the embroidered place mats you have given them, you can think in terms of connecting with a wider circle by setting up a website. You can still target your locality by using keywords that connect you with people looking for hand-crafted items in your town, county or city. If you are great at bargain hunting and take the time to find deals, you can re-sell the items you find for a small mark-up and make a profit. Your market will expand exponentially if you choose to sell on eBay or Craigslist.

As you can see, it's going to take some research and creativity - but if you are willing to enter the virtual world of business, there is great potential for making money online. It's worth noting at this point that like all business enterprise, you will need a heavy dose of patience and perseverance because there is competition in the virtual world also. If you listen to your customers and are responsive to their feedback then you're on the road to success. And then you can join the ranks of the millions who make a profit from working at home!
