How To Look Stylish On The Beach - By: Jamie Simpson

Just because you are headed to the beach for a day of soaking up the sun, surf and sand that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. With all of the available women's fashion options, there are a variety of ways to spice up any holiday beach ensemble. The keys are a fabulous swimsuit, a modern cover-up and an abundance of chic accessories.

Swimsuits

Whether it is a skimpy bikini or a more conservative one-piece, the swimsuit is the foundation for creating a stylish beach outfit. Metallic shades like bronze, silver and gold will glisten and shine like liquid in the sun, while solid black or white are always fashionable. Jet-setting celebrities are often photographed wearing one-piece bathing suits with plunging necklines and strategic cut-outs. Another stylish look is either a bikini or a one-piece with an asymmetrical or one-shoulder neckline.

Cover-ups

A natty cover-up is essential for walking to and from the beach and along the boardwalk, as well as for shopping, dining and drinks. It can be in the form of a sarong, mini-skirt, maxi-skirt, tunic, beach dress or caftan. Select one in a sheer or gauzy fabric that is both concealing and revealing at the same time.

Jewellery

Jewellery creates an instantly expensive look. Two or three gold or silver necklaces, a few bracelets, a pair of oversized earrings and some rings add instant sparkle and elegance. When you are not actually going into the water, chunky wooden bangles will create an island feel.

Sunglasses

Nothing generates mystery like a pair of sunglasses. Select a pair of dark, oversized frames for a dramatic effect or choose some aviator frames in the same metallic as the swimsuit or the jewellery. Just be sure the design is complementary to your individual face shape.

Headgear

For some, the purpose of wearing a head covering is to keep the sun out of their eyes and off of their face, while others simply aim to look stylish. An oversized, floppy hat, wide-brimmed straw hat or a cowboy hat will accomplish both goals. However, an ultra-cool option for those women whose sole interest is fashion should select a large silk printed scarf. Wrap it around the head, secure it at the nape of the neck and let the fabric hang loose in the back.

Footwear

Leather sandals are always in style, whether they are thongs, slip-ons, sling-backs or gladiator style. Another possibility is a metallic sandal to continue with the lustrous theme. Even though pictures often depict women wearing high-heels with swimsuits, avoid that route. On an actual beach, it will just look tacky, trampy and downright ridiculous.

Beach bags

A long day on the beach means toting essentials like a towel, sun screen, water, snacks and reading material. Huge bags in canvas, cotton, hemp, linen and straw are ideal. Select one to match your swimsuit and cover-up or be daring with a bold print or shocking shade. Accents like rope, leather and hardware add extra stylish detail.
