How To Locate A Career Job During The Credit Crunch - By: Felicity Lightbody

No one presently can move away from the recession, or credit crunch, as is the phrase that is commonly coined, and the impression it is having on every countries job market. The impact on the job market is vast and I for one, am not aware of anyone who has either not been made jobless as a result of the financial climate or has been threatened with redundancy. News programs are full of stats about highest rates of unemployment since the twenties and it most truly certainly is tough, when its you who have been told your job is at risk.

It seems no job is to be untouchable to the recission and downturn in the job market, I know of people in high powered positions that have lost their jobs and many more who have been threatened by job loss. Consequently the way job searchers are looking for employment, whether they are at this moment employed or not has changed considerably. As people are searching for more job security and for more recession proof jobs that are in markets and sectors that should continue to grow and prosper in the current climate. They are also searching for standby jobs, 'just in case' anything happens to their current position.

The chief points to bear in mind when searching for a job are as follows:

Bullet Proof Jobs
Look for jobs that are not likely to be affected (or minimally) by the financial downturn. Sectors like education and teaching, retail food, health care and energy sector jobs are all still relatively bullet proof and can surely help to give you a more secure job. Without a doubt there has been a large upturn in the amount of workers that are re-skilling as teachers in the last 18 months, for the aforementioned reasons.

Social Network
Register at twitter, facebook and all social networking sites and promote yourself and your strengths to everyone and anyone who will listen, network is the key here. It can also be done face to face in seminars, get togethers etc. The more extensive your network, the more helpful it will be to you.

Apply First
By signing up to online site news boards and job emails and then applying with a targeted resume, covernote and references can mean all the difference, specifically when so many unemployed are actively pursuing for jobs. The instant response can really help, especially if you follow up with emails as well to check on the status of your application.

Be Brave
Just because you maybe find yourself unemployed, do not suggest that you should take any old job, be brave and take on part time or temp employment in the interim until you figure out what it is that you need to do. For example, do you have a hobby that you could pursue and turn into a career for yourself? By making time to look and wonder who you are, you will really benefit.

Lastly, by thinking confidently and about how you can procure a job and forming an action plan, you should be fine. With a positive disposition and do not get bogged down with the news hype on how difficult it is and life should work out fine!
