How To Install Vertical Blinds - By: Jamie Simpson

Many people are interested in learning how to properly install vertical blinds into their windows, but unsure where to start. Understanding the steps required for installing window blinds will help someone get the job done without any mistakes. Rushing and installing blinds without any forethought can result in them needing to be taken down and reinstalled again. Taking the time to get a full understanding of how vertical blinds are installed will help an individual get the job done right the first time.

Taking Exact Measurements - The first step required for a proper installation is taking measurements of the windows. Using a measuring tape, an individual may need to step up on a ladder and measure the length of the window on the inside pane. Writing down the number will ensure the measurements are not forgotten. After the length is measured, it's important to check the length of the window. When shopping for vertical window blinds, these measurements need to be considered so the right fit is selected.

Collecting the Necessary Tools - Installing window blinds is fairly easy and doesn't require a lot of items to get started. While this is true, it is helpful to have all the tools ready before starting. Installation brackets, screws, level, and a drill are all helpful items that can ensure installation goes smoothly. Having a friend to help hold a ladder still is a good idea if the windows are tall.

Installation Process for Window Blinds - Drilling the holes for the blinds is a big step for many people, since it is important that it is in the right spot. Screwing a hole with the wrong measurements will mean that the individual needs to redo it and patch the old hole. Working from the measurements, a person will need to place the installation brackets over the holes and secure. It is recommended to take out a level and make sure that they are straight. Readjusting may be necessary for a professional finish.

Placing the Blinds into the Windows - After the installation brackets are installed and straight, the head rail can be slid into the designated brackets. This shouldn't take too much effort, but it is a good idea to have a friend to help with tall windows. The vanes will then be wrapped and should be sorted in order on the ground. Applying the vanes to the vane hooks can be a tedious process, but the results will look great. An individual may need to apply a great deal of pressure in order for the vanes to snap in tightly.

Once all of the vanes have been inserted, the entire installation will be finished. It is a good idea to test the blinds by opening and closing several times. Fixing any minor problems shouldn't be too hard and the results will be properly installed blinds. These blinds can keep out bothersome sunlight and provide some privacy for the room. The entire installation process should take around 30 minutes with the help of a friend.
