How To Grow Plants For Food In Almost Any Home - By: Peter Duley

Lately, health has developed into a huge factor in many people’s lives throughout the planet. Many organic goods from the local grocery store can fill the void, but they frequently cost way too much to make using them for everything possible. Given the high prices and limited selection, many people have resorted to using their backyard for growing. Although the investment in equipment can be pricey, even individuals without a yard at all can grow very healthy foods in the comfort of their home.

Over the past couple of years, innovations in lighting design have produced devices that make growing indoors inexpensive and easy. The first is the development of compact trees for modest growing areas. Many of these trees yield a higher volume of fruits while only growing between one and two meters tall. People can also make them grow even smaller by pruning them and limiting their growth with the size of the pot they are grown in. The small size of these plants allows them to be placed on a balcony or even in a tiny closet with ease. This is also very useful for a small yard where the grower wants to have several different plants and trees placed in the areas where there is the most sun.

Another bonus of having these small trees is being able to very easily grow them indoors. Indoor growing has advanced greatly lately with the development of very high powered and efficient LED grow lights. The size can be further reduced by pruning and growing the fruit trees in small pots to restrict their root development. The lighting is controlled mostly by the user, which allows the plant to be grown and produce at any time of the year. A grower can have a wide selection of apple trees or other kinds of fruit trees that grow in multiple seasons versus having what can grow in the region only during certain seasons.

A huge benefit to growing dwarfed trees is the time of production for both the fruit and the tree itself. Regular trees that make fruit takes years to develop before they are producing enough fruit to feed the person. Since the amounts of nutrients and water fed are controllable, dwarf trees can produce considerably faster. Even the lighting cycles can be changed to switch the seasons faster and help the tree to blossom. Amount of exposure to cold temperatures can also be lessened by moving the plant indoors during the cold nights.
