When The Universe was handing out chins, I thought it said "Gins", so I asked for a double one!

It used to be funny and it was how I laughed my way out of not knowing how to get a flat stomach but when my clothes not longer fitted me and I no longer liked my reflection in the mirror, something had to change.

To be successful, you have to surround yourself with successful people. To get a flat stomach, find people who already have achieved this goal and ask them how they did it. This is what I learned but not only that I actually took ACTION and guess what, I found how to get a flat stomach and I still have it so I also learned how to KEEP a flat stomach.

In order to get a flat stomach - the one that you dream about, just follow the simple steps below.

1. Stomach exercises

To crunch or not to crunch. Yes, it is important to make some time for exercising but make sure that your exercises are focused and performed correctly. There's no point in doing hundreds of ab crunches if you are not doing them right. In fact, if you feel you have to do hundreds of ab exercises, then you are not doing them right and you are no closer to learning how to get a flat stomach. There is no need to spend money on ab belts, ab rockers or home exercise equipment.

2. Mix it up a bit

Avoid trying to concentrate on one area of your body or just doing the same routine time and time again. Make sure to do comprehensive body workouts and make really them count. It is easy to get into bad habits such as not pushing yourself. A focused 20 minutes where your body actually breaks a sweat is far more effective then 60 minutes of half hearted exercise. Think of all the time you will save. But remember, warm up and cool down properly.

3. You are what you eat

You need to watch what you eat. See what you eat as an investment in yourself and your body. You are making a deposit of some healthy food that will nourish and feed your body. Food should be enjoyable and fun. Don't forget your 5 a day, eat plenty of colour, this a good way of making sure that you keep variety in your diet. Aim to have at least three different food colours on your plate - coloured M&M's don't count! Eating more fibre can also help get a flat stomach as the digestive system is more efficient. Eating a balanced diet means that you don't have to buy food supplements or diet pills.

4. Keep it varied

Intersperse your cardio routine with some strength training. If you are woman, gentle strength and resistance training can help you maintain bone density. Strength training does not mean you will end up with huge muscles, but a well toned core means you get a flat stomach as well as good posture and a great looking physique.
