How To Get A Good Deal On Your Next Carpet Cleaning - By: Alexander Hope

In the first two parts of this three-part series we have discussed how to best spot a great deal on carpet cleaning and what are some common tricks used by sales men all over the world to make sure your wallet is bleeding after a meeting with them.

In this last part we will explore all of the questions you should be asking on the phone, prior to booking anything. Please make sure to always note down the name of the person you are speaking to and the time of the call, so that you have a reference for the future.

So, which questions should you always ask prior to booking a carpet cleaner to come around to your house?

1. If you found that they have a deal on you need to call them and ask if they have any limits on room size. If it is, ask how much extra they charge per square metre and do the maths. You also need to know how many rooms are included.
2. If there isn't any deal on they will ask you what sort of place you live in and estimate it based on that. Make sure to let the person you are on the phone to know exactly how big the rooms are, so their quote will be as accurate as possible.
3. Also ask they they include stain removals and deodorising in the price. If it isn't, find out how much it is. It is common for carpet cleaners to include the deodorising in the price, but not stain removals. Always ask if the stain removal price you are quoted is per stin or for the whole apartment/house.
4. Another important question to ask is how long you should expect the drying of the caret to take. A good carpet cleaner will make sure the carpet is quite dry and it will take another few hours with the windows open to dry properly. If you get a bad one, he will leave it soaking, telling you to leave doors and windows open for 24 hours at least. This can potentially either ruin your carpet, give your house mould, or both

I sincerely hope that this has given you the tools you need to tackle your next carpet cleaning. It is amazing how much money you can save just asking the right questions before they start the job. These principles apply to other trades men as well, so go out there and get yourself a bargain! Do not be afraid to say no if you think you are being ripped off. There will always be another 10 carpet cleaners wanting your business.

A good trick is to call several companies up, get a quote and write it down. When you have finished your list, get your best quote out, call them all up again (except for your best quote) and say the following. “Hi there, my name is so-and-so, and we spoke earlier about a quote for some carpet cleaning of my house. Well , you quoted me X dollars, but when I called up XYZ carpet cleaning they said they could do the exact same job for Y dollars. So, I was wondering if you would be able to beat that? If they do, great, if they don't, don't worry about it. You'll never see them again anyway. After you have called everyone to see if they would beat your previous best offer, pick out the best offer and call XYZ carpet cleaning back and repeat the procedure with your new best offer.

Using this technique will only take 10 minutes out of your time and can potentially save you a lot of money. Good luck and I hope you have learnt something new today.
