How To Effectively Choose Your Keywords - By: Lee MacRae

If you seriously want to get tons of traffic to your website by means of the various search engines then you are going to have to do some equally serious keyword research. Search engines will index your website according to the keywords your website and each individual web page is built around. This article will help you to understand how to choose keywords that will be fully relevant while also pulling in the type of traffic that you need.

Note that there are two separate but distinctly conjoint purposes in choosing keywords. The keywords must be fully relevant to your site will also pulling relevant traffic. First of all, fully relevant keywords are those that express exactly what your website is about. You can go even further in saying that the keywords must be unique and fully relevant for each and every webpage that you have. For example, if you are a doctor how relevant would it be for a website to advertise you as just a doctor? If you search for the term doctor in Google the search results will return 356,000,000 pages that are relevant. That's like finding a very small needle in a very large haystack. Obviously, the keyword term and doctor is only relevant to a certain degree and is nothing to really put you at the top of all those pages. The question is, what kind of doctor are you? Are you a general practitioner? Are you a surgeon? Do you have a very specific specialty? If you typed in "geriatric doctor" would find just a little over 2 million pages being returned. That makes finding your website a lot easier. And to take your keyword phrases further you may have webpages optimized for "geriatric doctor for females" and "geriatric doctor for males". More than likely your webpages optimized like that will be found much easier in a web search. Of course, you don't simply pulled these keyword phrases over the air. You need to use your keyword research tools to find out exactly what people ARE searching for. Don't ever make the mistake of optimizing for keywords that people never search for. Make sure you do your research before you begin to put your website together.

Obviously then, you need to dig deeper to find truly relevant keyword terms that will help to index your website and your webpages to make them easier to find. But you also need to go a step further if you want to attract people to sell them a product or a service. People searching for an acne doctor, a cosmetic surgeon or a plastic surgeon are likely going to be spending some money. Think about how you would go about looking for a service or a product and then look through all of the keywords that are related to that service or product. You are looking for "buying" keyword terms. You want to find keywords where people are not just looking for doctors but for specific doctors or for specific health reasons.

No matter what your website is going to be about you want to attract visitors to your website. Otherwise why would you build? Don't just concentrate on single keywords, concentrate on keyword phrases that you find in your keyword research, concentrate on keyword phrases that people are already searching for. By thinking like a searcher or a buyer you can optimize your website to rank high as far as relevancy is concerned in the search engine results.
