How To Eat Out Without Getting Fat - By: JacobT

In today’s world dining out is a fact of life. Finding time to cook is harder and harder for most busy people in today’s society – so we go out to eat. Unfortunately, eating out is also an easy way to get a little fat around the middle (or a lot fat around the middle).
But never fear – I have come to the rescue! Here are a few tricks to eating out that will help keep you lean and mean:

First, here the three things to always avoid at restaurants:

• Fried Foods
• Refined Starchy Foods (bread, rice)
• Any Sodas, Juices (any sweet drink) or sugary foods (except for whole fruits)

By skipping these three categories of foods, you eliminate the food sources that cause the most problems – because by skipping these foods you have knocked out trans fats, starchy carbs, and processed sugars – major fat hazards.

How do you do this while eating out? Skip the bread, skip the fries, skip the sweet drinks and desserts and skip the heaping servings of rice. Instead, try to order meat with vegetables on the side, ask for salad instead of fries, etc. Important tip: most restaurants will let you substitute vegetables or salads for French Fries or rice – this is an easy alternative with huge benefits.

Some people have a problem with skipping the French Fries – they think somehow this is a big sacrifice. Who are they kidding? If you think about it, they are not that tasty, except for all the salt and ketchup we pile on top of them to give them more flavor. It’s almost like we are just trying to find something to finish filling us up from our main course. Trust me, give it a chance and in no time you will be past missing the French Fries. As a matter of fact, the two most important things to lose from our diets would probably have to be French Fries and sodas.

Here is an example of the wrong way to eat and the right way to eat while ordering at a restaurant……

The wrong way to order at the local drive through:
• burger or sandwich
• chips or fries
• soda or other sweetened drink (and no, diet sodas are NOT healthy!)
The right way to order at the local drive through:
• burger or sandwich
• salad or veggies
• unsweetened iced tea or water (no diet drinks -- unless you like to drink poison!)

These 2 simple changes in your diet can save at least 400 - 900 calories every time you eat out, and you are cutting out trans fats and high fructose corn syrup, two types of foods harmful to your body.

One way to cheat a little with the breads, pasta, rice and get away with it – schedule a high intensity work-out prior to your meal. Then, the meal becomes your carbs replenishment meal after your work-out. Keep in mind this will only work if the work-out is high intensity and packed with resistance training – otherwise your cheating will hurt your weight control tremendously.

Now, why don’t you go on out to eat – but eat healthy!
