Most designers of trade show displays consider the primary goal of their units to be promotion. The idea is to sell more of your latest product, ideally while increasing general customer awareness of your brand. While these are absolutely the ultimate goals of any designer, they shouldn't be the only goals that govern the creation of trade show booths. The best designs keep these objectives in mind, but also remember that to achieve them, another goal must be met: the goal of ensuring that every visitor has fun at your trade show exhibits.

Why Fun Really Matters

Impressive business showcases don't stick in visitors' minds as well as something entertaining. Fun is the best way to really make visitors remember your company. Offer something entertaining that reminds them quite clearly of your business and your products. Games and activities that reinforce your message are very useful here. For example, if you're selling a number of different products, have a game to help visitors determine which one is right for them. Make things entertaining, and people will remember it. Make things serious, boring, and starkly promotional, and you'll quickly be forgotten.

In addition, the most unique and fun trade show booths are the ones that get the most word of mouth, and thus the most foot traffic, during conventions. If you've got a particularly unique exhibit or activity, people will tell their friends about it. Word will travel fast, and you'll find yourself dealing with large crowds of people wanting to learn more about you.

Making Fun Happen At Trade Show Exhibits

The key to having entertaining trade show displays is to not take the design process too seriously. You want to represent your company in a positive light, but that doesn't mean you must avoid anything that might make your visitors smile or laugh. There will be some situations where that type of design just won't work (industry conventions where you're pitching almost exclusively to executives is one such occasion) but for the most part, fun if always a good plan.

Outstanding trade show displays go above and beyond what's expected. They can provide over-the-top experiences like games right there at the convention. They offer something so unexpected and overwhelming that visitors can't help but become interested. Whenever possible, ensure that the unique element you create ties in with your product or your industry. At the very least, be sure that your prize is something branded with your company's identity. Even better, give away a gift certificate or even one of your products.

Experiences Are Always More Fun

Having demonstrations and samples available within your booths is another good way to increase the amount of entertainment available. Whenever people are able to explore and do things rather than simply hearing about them, they leave with the impression that they had a more enjoyable experience. Handling items and working with their hands engages all the senses, making it easier for them to remember as well.

When you are not afraid to incorporate fun into your trade show exhibits, you'll benefit from a more memorable and more visited convention presence. Promotion and sales will happen naturally, driven by the authentic and interesting fun that your company's booth provides.
