How To Choose A Baby Monitor - By: Benjamen Lempnero

Choosing a baby monitor is harder than it used to be, and there used to be only a few models to choose from, which made the process a relatively quick one. These days, choosing a baby monitor can actually be quite difficult, and because of our technological advances, we no longer have just a few models to choose from. Some systems are even so extensive, that they offer you full video and audio surveillance, and some can be hardwired into your home, while others offer multiple receiver varieties! But, before you just run off and choose the first baby monitor you can find, consider these tips to help you figure out exactly what you need.

Frequencies and channel range, what kind do you need?

If you live in an area with a lot of families or in a multi-family building you will want to find a unit that gives you a wide range of frequencies, as this should eliminate the hassle of interference from other homes' monitoring systems. The last thing you want is to pick up the signal from someone else's baby monitor instead of your own, but this is less important if you live in an area that is relatively child free. If asking friends and family don't provide you with a solution, go to the library, bookstore or online. Look for brands that have been endorsed by industry giants like Consumer Reports. Here you can find detailed information about what is good or not so good about any product. You can learn which brands are over-marketed, which ones are the best performing, which ones have the best prices for their performance, etc. If you really want to learn which products have the best performance record and give you the most value, these are types of reviews you should study. In publications and sites like these you can at least be confident that you're getting independent reviews. You can't always trust what you read in advertisements or company websites.

How extensive would you like your system to be? If you are living in a small home, you may not even have room for a more extensive system, which is why you might need something more along the lines of a base station or single receiver setup. If you have more space available in your home, a system which includes multiple receivers may be a better option. If you choose a multiple receiver system, you should find one that will allow you to use the receivers for outbound communication as well as inbound. Also, if you choose to have more than one receiver, it will allow you to monitor more than one child consecutively, and you also won't have to worry about always carrying it around with you.

Now while there are really so many things which you can consider when you want to purchase your baby monitor, all you really need to remember is to assess what you really want, and how you want the system to deliver that, and then find a monitor which can closely match your concerns. Your final decision should in the end, be based on how extensive you actually want your system to be, and also how much you want it to cost. Take the time to figure out what it is that you actually want by researching the features and pros of various baby monitoring systems, that way in the end you will be happy with your final decision.
