How To Care For Your Wallet - By: Rita Sachs

Buying a new wallet can be a rather large expense. These days they can costing from about $50 and all the way up to $1000. If you are one of those that have spent a lot of money on a new leather wallet you would want to make sure that you look after it. Just like you look after your skin, you also have to look after your wallet if you want it to last. Human skin and leather, whether it is calf, cow or nappa, has to be looked after properly if you want it to last you a long time. Both human skin and leather has to be moisturised regularly, if not, it dries out.

You have to understand that leather is a type of material that has a tendency of fading, become dry and start cracking, and in the end they will fall apart. So, the first and foremost step is to make sure you wallet stays clean. Should you ever get dirt on it, simply wash it off with a warm and dry cloth. If you do not, the dirt will get taken up by the leather and it will stain it. There are soaps made specifically for leather out there if you want to take it that far, or if you have stains that can not be removed using just a warm cloth.

Step two should be to make sure you condition your wallet on a regular basis. This is the same as putting moisturiser on your face, as it softens and smoothes the leather and makes sure it does not dry out and start cracking. There are products that will both clean and condition your wallet at the same time. Make sure the conditioner you buy is suited to your particular type of leather. Just cover the wallet in the conditioner, leave it to absorb for about 5 minutes and then just rub off the excess.

It is also a good idea to polish you wallet on a regular basis. While you are doing this you should also weatherproof if, just in case it is ever left outside. I suggest you polish and weatherproof your wallet once every six months. Do it as soon as you buy it and every six months after that.

If you simply follow these steps you can be sure that you wallet will stay silky smooth for a long time. Following this process your wallet will last you a life time.
