How To Appreciate - By: Austin Hatem

When I was a young child I remember my uncle telling me this story about Love and Life, it has had a immense effect on me and my family throughout the years and I really think that it will do the same for you...

It was the boy's birthday... for awhile the boy was told that he would be receiving a new car for his birthday...... The boy and his Dad had always had a bad relationship but they both figured it would all be mended after the boy received his car.... his father's present resided within a small cardboard box... the boy was certain that the box contained the keys to his new car... he cautiously unwrapped the gift and was confused to see that his Dad had given him a Bible... The boy furiously threw the Bible down and left the house without saying a thing to anyone... the boy was so mad that he spend all his time alone and purposely avoided his father...weeks swiftly turned to months and before he knew it the boy hadn't spoken with his father for over a year. This was of course until he had gotten a call that let him know his father had suddenly passed away... A wave of despair came over the boy...he aimlessly drove straight to his father's house...he walked in and saw that the bible that he had gotten for his birthday was in the exact same position he had left it a year ago. He went over and dusted it off, slowly opened it and car keys fell out with a note saying "I love you son and am so proud of you, here is the brand new car you deserve"...

When i take my loved ones for granted, i try to think of this tale and am reminded of how lucky i am to have such a great family. The sad part about this story is how real to life it actually is...there are many of us who become bitter with close ones for innate things such as the event described above. We all fave several serious adversities, it is meaningless to fight over such small things. You should instead be trying to help one another overcome life's adversities. Pointless bickering will help no one and only prove to make the real hardships even harder.
