How To Achieve Maximum Benefit From Your Group Insurance Plan - By: ArticleSubmit Auto

If you have health insurance through your employer, then count yourself lucky. It's getting harder and harder these days, for various reasons, for employers to continue to offer health insurance benefits to their employees. And often times, this health insurance comes in the form of managed care, which can be quite restrictive. However, if you do have managed care, then this article can help. You'll learn how to get the most out of your health coverage plan without flagging yourself as a high risk.

The first thing to check is the limitations. Some simple things, like doctors visits, are unlimited. Sure, they may only last ten minutes, and you may have a co-pay of twenty bucks, but if they are unlimited, then make the most of them. However, if you simply show up once a week and hope your doctor will read your mind, you won't get much out of it.

One thing you can do is make up a list of questions before you go in. Make them as specific as possible, as vague questions generally invite vague answers, which aren't much help. For example, instead of saying you are having trouble sleeping at night, make up a list of everything you do before going to bed, and ask your doctor if anything on your list is causing you some problems.

One thing you can also do is to prepare a very detailed description of your problem. Be as specific as possible, and including as many details as you can. For example, instead of complaining about shoulder pain, describe the pain in specific terms, where it hurts, how long it lasts, when it hurts, and what kind of over the counter medicine you may be taking. This will save time and help your doctor to give you some specific advice.

Generic drugs are another concern. Most, if not all, group plans only will cover generic drugs. There are several name brand drugs that don't yet have a generic equivalent. And many times doctors have several patients under several different plans, so they don't always know who gets what kind of prescription. It's best to find out, and let your doctor know ahead of time, so you don't end up having to pay more than you should.

These concepts are fairly basic and straightforward. But when you put them into practice on a regular basis, you'll save time, money, and notice a significant improvement in the quality of your health care.
