All ADHD medications have corresponding side effects. Not all ADHD medications have the same results to every child as well. Some may be effective to some ADHD children, and some are not. For this reason, it is best to always allow your doctor to monitor the child's reaction to every medication given. In this way, the doctor may know what kind of medication that best works and the dosage to be given especially to your child that have other disorder along with ADHD.

The side effects of ADHD medications are supposedly known to be minor side effects. These side effects may disappear over time and if the doctor advised the dosage to be lowered and the time interval of administration may change.

Here are the different possible corresponding side effects of stimulant medications to your ADHD child.

Stimulant Medication

* There is loss of appetite on the child's eating habit.

With this concern, be sure that you provide healthy and palatable dish for your child to continue the balanced diet. However, in cases that this side effect persists, talk to your doctor on what do especially if the child's growth and weight gain is affected while you child is taking this medication.

* The ADHD child may undergo sleeping problems.

In cases like this, the doctor would usually lower the dosage of the medication. In some cases, they will prescribe shorter-acting form of medication. The time interval in giving medication will be possibly changed by the doctor. Instead of giving it in the afternoon or evening, it will be given earlier in that day. You can do some consistent sleep routine that would help the child to put to sleep as well. You can try giving your child warm milk, soft music and bedtime stories if it helps.

* There are also side effects that rarely happen.

Some ADHD children may develop tics or the sudden rhythmic movements or sounds. You need to be observant on this kind of side effect because this may or may not be noticeable.

There are other ADHD children that are under this medication that will develop personality change like having flat affects or having no emotion.

Though these side effects may appear minor to some, it is still best to talk with your child's doctor in case that these side effects manifest and persist. The doctor may change the medication given and there is a possibility that these side effects be managed and may disappear.

Proper knowledge about medications and its side effects for ADHD children is important.
