After realizing that a portion of your marriage was lived in a sea of untruth, it's hard to know what's real again. You want to be able to trust again and know that your spouse is not lying to you anymore. Rebuilding the trust in your relationship after the affair is a process that takes time and a willing partner. But in the meantime you want some form of solid proof that your cheating spouse is no longer lying. You want to know for sure that the affair has truly ended and the other person is completely out of the picture.

If you cannot trust your instincts about your spouse and you have a burning desire for strong proof, you can consider taking your spouse for a polygraph test. This is an extreme measure for sure but it can lay your fears to rest. Besides, just the thought of going through with the test may be enough to cause your spouse to confess and come clean.

As the injured spouse, you want more than just lip service from your partner. You want to know and see that he or she is working toward a change of character from the inside out. However, knowing with 100 percent certainty whether or not your spouse is lying to you may not be the best use of your time and energy. Every relationship has an element of risk, so at some point, you have to trust that your spouse is not lying to you, as long as he is conducting himself in a trust-worthy manner after the affair is over.
