When a woman has been unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant for some time, the number one thought in their minds is “when am I most likely to fall pregnant?” They begin searching for answers, using every resource available to them – books, doctors, and the internet.

Trying to become pregnant is a difficult, stressful and heart-breaking process for many women. Each month that the results are other than what you are desperately hoping for is like a knife thrust to the heart. As time goes by, you begin to obsess about becoming pregnant; it becomes the driving force in your life.

So what can you do to maximise your chances of becoming pregnant? There are many good tips out there to increase your chances of conceiving.

Keep Sex Fun.
Don’t let your desire to become pregnant influence your sexual relationship with your partner to the extent that having sexual relations begins to feel like a chore. Excessive stress has many negative effects on your body, including that of inhibiting your sex drive and the ability of your body to conceive.

Fertile Period.
Find out when your fertile period is – there are many resources available on the internet and elsewhere about how to tell when you are most fertile. Have sexual relations with your partner as often as possible during this time.

Lie Down.
Experts say that lying down for several minutes after having sexural relations increases the chance that the sperm will come into contact with the ova.

Fertile Cervical Mucus
If you are monitoring your cervical mucus for signs that you are ovulating, check it bedore swimming, bathing or swimming.

No More Coffee.
Research shows that drinking more than three cups of coffee a day can have a detrimental effect on fertility. Also, caffeine can restrict the growth of a baby by inhibiting blood flow to the uterus.

Stop Smoking and Drinking Alcohol.
Both smoking cigarettes and consuming alcohol can drastically affect your fertility. If you are hoping to conceive, it is vital that you stay away from both substances. Also remember that the smoke you breathe in when others smoke around you is even worse for you than the original cigarette is.

Prescription Drugs
Make sure that any prescription drugs you are currently taking have no negative effects on fertility, and also that they will not harm your baby when you do conceive. Ask your doctor to recommend an alternative if there is even the slightest risk.
